I'm Radioactive......AAAAAHHHHH!

Thursday evening, Oct. 19th, I got the phone call that my blood work showed I was ready to begin the Radioactive Iodine treatment.  YAHOO!!!!  All the Dr. had wanted was for me to become hypothyroid by stopping my Thyroid Medication on Sept. 27th.  Goal was to have my TSH level be at a 30  three weeks later.   Well, I went hypothyroid alright!   My TSH level was at 255!  I, of course, cried!  I was so happy to be ready, plus, there was another reason behind the complete utter destraught, zombie feelings I was having(not eating much didn't help either)!!!  Dr. said she has only seen 2 other people get that high during her years of treatment!

My treatment ended up being delayed 1 day.  The pill called I-131 didn't make it's connecting flight on Sunday.  So......instead of Monday, I went in this morning, Tuesday. Oct. 23, 2012.    Because my TSH levels were so high my Dr. ended up ordering a smaller dose.  The high TSH levels show that my body basically has no thyroid hormone it is producing.  This means that the surgeon most likely got it all out.  But, just to be safe, this small does of I-131 will kill any remaining Thyroid Tissue and Cancer with it!  :)   So great!

With this I-131 I am radioactive.   The first 2 days I must have limited contact with any persons.  After the 2nd day you can relax a little, but still must keep 3 ft. distance between persons, sleep in your own bed, and a slew of other things for a total of 4 days.  I was thrilled to learn only 4 days.  Due to me getting a smaller dose, I can go home sooner!  :)  The main worry is small children and pregnant women.  Exposure of radiation to them is very dangerous.  For this reason I needed to be away from my house.  I could go home Saturday, but Jer and I decided Sunday would be best.

I am staying at my neighbors parent's home during this.   Christy and Dean are amazing people.  When they offered their place I just cried.  It was just the ideal situation.   They only live about 3 minutes from our house, just 2 neighborhoods over.  They have a lovely finished basement, and I feel right at home.  The family can come visit me easily, minus Mya, anytime.  The first 2 days, really no contact, but on the 3rd day they can visit.  I think Kenz and Madi might come spend the night.  They just have to sleep out in the family room.  Molly will probably just come play in the playroom for a bit.  I'm sad Mya can't come.  :(   I miss snuggling with her.  I usually lay by her for naptime, or rock her to sleep, then lay her in the crib.  I know, she's two.  But, she's my last baby, and loves snuggle time (so I was most sad to learn that I can only hug small children for 10 minutes or less, 1 time a day if same child, for the next 3 weeks).    Oh, how i'll miss her big snuggle hugs all the time.   Mollly's too, although Molly's are short and quick now!  Madi's are longer than Molly's.  Kenzie's are super quick!

Here is my home away from home the next few days.
Christy has made it all so nice(I did bring my own bedding, that way I'll just take it home and wash it after this).  I love the France theme of my bedroom!  Wish I was back in France, instead of doing this, but really can't complain!   I feel very comfortable here. I love having a desk by the window. I can look out at the backyard and love the light coming in. I may be blogging nonstop! Kids would be mad if I did that, they want me to read the Hunger Game series during this.

Also, my own kitchen and family room area. The next 2 days it's supposed to be 80 degrees, but Friday a cold front will come in. I will love using the fireplace then.

Have my own private bathroom as well.  Just perfect for me during this!

Blessings have truly been showered down upon us.  I am so grateful!

So, when I'm not reading The Hunger Games, I'll be catching up on my blog & a few TV shows!

UPDATE:  It's now Thursday, Oct. 25th, 9:39pm.  Almost 3 full days done!!!   :)   Madi is spending the night in the family room tonight.  I sleep better having her here.  I have been very nauseous!  Makes me just want to lie down and sleep all of the time.  Have an awful taste in my mouth.  It's all making me not want to eat much.   No other side effects.  Today my friend Sue came over to see me.  She brought fresh homemade jam.   I did have toast tonight spreading the delicious jam on it.  Loved it!  Nauseous again soon after, but while I ate it, the taste of the jam and special homemade bread the Weeks made me, was devine.

All is going well at home.  They facetime me often so I can see them and the going's on at home.  Jer even facetimed from their Chick-fi-la outing today.  Enjoyed watching Molly try finishing her huge ice cream before heading to school.  Mya kept saying her cute "Hello, Mommy" to the phone.  I love the way she says "Hello."  So happy Grandma is there with them too.   I miss being home.  I miss being Mom.  Most people would love a little break, and I'll admit, the extra sleep is very nice, but, I'd rather be home with my family.   Hurry up Sunday!!!

Grateful again for all the love and support given to us!  Truly just feel very blessed!
